Tailored my Forth Armories haubergeon to my liking. It now has a dagged bottom hem and slightly shortened sleeves, which will work well instead of the just more than half sleeves that went down below my elbows. Next up is attaching a riveted aventail to my bascinet. It will be nice to be able to lace it to the leather instead of the butted aventail I have had so far.
One of the premiums that attendees will get to enjoy is a small stake of coins. I realize that I don’t have 15th century coins appropriate for attendees portraying 15th century persons, but they’ll be late 14th century coins usable for playing at the tables. I have decided to give them out according to portrayal type; gentlemen will receive thirty pennies, men at arms, archers, musicians, and merchants will receive twenty pennies, and commoners will receive fifteen pennies—a mix of penny, half-groat, and groat coins. It will be fun to see how fortunes rise and fall among those attending; I am sure the Wheel shall turn mercilessly, lifting some and dashing others down!
Daniel Wickstrom, proprietor of Darkheart Armoury and known as Count Morgan d’Antioche in the SCA, has given his intent to attend; he is a platener of great skill and one of our esquires has a pair of his 14th century finger gauntlets. It will be fun for the two to meet and for him to see how his gauntlets are integrated into the rest of the harness.
Best to you all! Hope to see you at the Crossroads!
