EVENT NOTICES & NEWS

Jehan de Pelham, 7 April 2007

I just realized that it’s about ninety days until Crossroads in Time. The event conceived just east of Baqubah, Iraq early in 2006 is definitely a go, and it’s nigh upon us! I haven’t had a chance to camp out in kit for about eighteen months, and it’s definitely something I look forward to.

Lots to do, though years of acquiring kit has certainly narrowed down what remains to be finished. I imagine that if you’re planning on coming, there are a variety of projects that you’re working on. A few items on my own list: tailor Forth Armories haubergeon, attach riveted aventail to helmet, strap, back, and paint Atzinger Shieldworks shield, purchase Tentsmiths Midi-round, replace tent ropes with hemp, make benches, strike coins to give out to attendees, make another backgammon set, to name a few. I guess I know what I am doing on my weekends!

Just a quick reminder: Now’s the time to start settling up any purchases and new equipment you’re looking to integrate. I’ve been down this road a time or two, and have many stories of items arriving just before departure, and then the hassle of integrating it into your kit at the event. Save yourself the trouble and learn from my hard earned experience: Now’s the time. I placed an order just today for some wooden wasters from Purpleheart, some longswords and some rondel daggers, for use in an emprise I plan on hosting at the Crossroads for all you men at arms.

Got an email back today from Peter Fuller of Medieval Reproductions. He was an early encourager for Crossroads in Time, and it’s been a kick to look forward to meeting him and his company. He likes the new dates better, and intends to attend. I got a similar email from Nick Friend (Klaus the Red), stating his intentions and liking the new dates better. Now, all I have to do is get some similar letters from Scott Adkins, William Reyolds (formerly of The Red Company-1471), Hugh Knight of die Schlactschule, John Jordan of the Rocky Mountain Historical Combat Guild, Jere Jameson of Redshield 1391, Sean Garrison of Atzinger Shieldworks, among others, and I’ll be on my way to heaven!

Best to you all! Hope to see you at the Crossroads!
